EMS is one of the non viral deadly diseases in shrimp with huge mortalities in many cases reaching 100% within 30 days. Vibrio parahemolyticus infected by a bacteriophage, transmitted orally, release toxins at hepato pancreas & GIT that cause tissue destruction and dysfunction of the shrimp digestive system.
Causes :High organic sediments with unconsumed feed and shrimp carcasses, Eutrophicated pond waters with high pH range 8.5-8.8, high level of nutrient addition like fertilizers and molasses, pond waters with high temperatures, salinity and high pH influence the disease, poor water circulation and low plankton diversity.
Symptoms: :Erratic swimming or swimming near bottom of pond, reduced growth, pale or whitening, atrophied and shrunken hepato pancreas, soft texture of exoskeleton, dark spots or streaks on hepato pancreas.
Dosage: 5-10 grams of total day feed.
